Note on the 2018 vintage

Despite a rather dry autumn, the tillage carried out for 2 years on the property and the rainy winter have made it possible to regenerate the soil's water reserves a little. The bud burst (emergence of the buds) began in mid-April due to a winter which played the overtime. The hot and stormy spring, for its part, greatly accelerated the development of the vines; the stages followed one another very quickly with the start of veraison (beginning of the ripening of the berries) around July 24th. The dry and very hot summer allowed the grapes to ripen well, and despite the water deficit, the desired yield of 45 hl / ha was reached. The harvest started on September 5, 2018.

Terroir

Domaine de Lathevalle is located to the west of the hamlet of Morgon, in the southernmost part of the appellation on gently sloping hillsides with a south-eastern exposure. The cuvée "Les Charmes" comes from old vines (50 years on average) planted on sandy soil.
granite which gives the wine this very fruity side.

Winemaking / aging

The harvest is manual and was done in 600l tub. A meticulous sorting is carried out in the vineyard in order to provide healthy bunches which are then directly vatted intact in concrete vats. The vinifications are followed according to the respect of the traditional and ancestral method of the MORGON appellation. Two daily pumping over, then in the middle of the fermentation phase, a shedding of a few hours to extract the color, structure and aromas. Once the sugars are finished and after tasting, the devatting date is set. Aging in carefully selected oak barrels for around 12 months. Regular tastings allow us to determine the bottling date, for 2018 it took place at the end of April 2020. Wine very lightly filtered.

The tasting

Deep ruby in color, with a vanilla nose on small red fruits (raspberry, blackberry) underlined by spicy notes. A greedy and intense palate where we find aromas of vanilla and very ripe red fruits.

Our consumer advice

With a good length in the mouth, this wine will go perfectly with your meats in sauce and your cheeses with character.
